2026 TRASH & RECYCLING

New Trash and Recycling Contract Information
Starting in January 2026, the Borough’s new hauler will be AJ Blosenski. Both trash and recycling collections will be automated, using borough-provided bins.
Automated Trash
Automated Trash Collection is trash picked up by trucks using a mechanical arm. The handle of the bin MUST face your home and have a 4-foot clearance around it to be collected in a safe and proper manner, only the designated trash bin will be picked up. Do not place the container near mailboxes, parked cars, utility poles, trees/brush, or other items that prevent clear access to the bins. Your new collection container is for the disposal of regular household trash only.
Automated Recycling
Automated Recycling Collection will be picked up on the same schedule as previous years using your current Bryn Athyn Borough serialized bin. See list of acceptable recycling items below.
Schedule
The same services of twice-a-week trash collection and once-a-week recycling will continue, following the same schedule (Mondays and Thursdays) as the previous hauler. On holidays, trash collection will be on a one-day delay after the holiday. Check below for the full holiday schedule.
Trash Bins
All residents will receive a 96-Gallon trash container that will be delivered during the week of December 15. The 96-gallon bin will hold up to 7 standard sized kitchen bags. If residents prefer to swap out the 96-gallon container for a smaller container or purchase an additional 96-gallon container, a request can be made with the Borough starting February 1, 2026. We have a very limited number of smaller 64-gallon bins. For large apartment dwellings or multi-family structures, an additional bin may be purchased from the Borough. Please contact the Borough Office for details.
Yard Waste
Yard waste will not be collected in the new bins. We are still working to set up yard a waste disposal program. Residents can repurpose old trash bins for yard waste. If residents choose to use old containers for yard waste, which will need to be identified on the outside of the can as YARD WASTE.
CHRISTMAS TREES
Blosenski will collect Christmas trees in the month of January as a one-time exception on a regular trash day that is not your recycling day. Trees taller than 6 feet should be cut into smaller sections.
Bulk Collection and White Goods
Bulk collection will be picked up on Thursdays, with no scheduling required. Only one bulk item will be picked up per week. Bulk items include tables, chairs, furniture, bedding (mattress & box spring count as one), and appliances with NO refrigerant. NO yard waste, fuels or building supplies/materials. All large items should be disassembled for manageable pickup via automated claw-arm or a single driver.
White goods will be picked up on the 3rd Monday of the month. Please call the Borough Office to schedule a pickup a sticker for all white goods. This includes all items with refrigerants.
The first 90 days of the contract will be under regular review to monitor and measure the collection process. The Borough will try to accommodate any exceptions or alterations to the route or collection process. The Borough has spent many months soliciting and reviewing bids and contracts for trash collection. A mechanized and automated collection process is the most affordable and common process used today. We ask all residents to please be patient with the process and work through the first month of collection. We are open to comments and will publish Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) on the website and in the BA Post.
