Borough of Bryn Athyn Trash & Recycling Regulations Call 610-265-6337 for missed pickups or other problems
Trash and Recycling may be placed at the curb NO earlier than 6pm the day BEFORE scheduled collection or later than 6am the day of the collection. Trash and Recycling receptacles must be removed from the curb promptly.
Trash Collection Trash and garbage are collected twice a week on Monday and Thursday. Trash must be properly sealed or tied in a metal or plastic container or plastic bag. Trash may not be placed at the curb in a cardboard box or paper bag. Tree limbs, not more than two (2) inches in diameter, and clippings, must be tied in bundles weighing no more than fifty (50) pounds each and no longer than thirty-six (36) inches in length. Carpeting must be cut in three (3) foot sections, folded and tied. Each bundle must not exceed fifty (50) pounds. Compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL) must be placed in a paper bag. Household batteries are collected with regular trash. Building materials, concrete, dirt, stones, tires and automotive parts are not considered household trash and will not be collected. There is a limit of six (6) cans, plastic bags, or bundles of trash per collection. DO NOT place trash receptacles in the street.
Recycling Collection Monday Recycling – WEST of Huntingdon Pike, includes all Huntingdon Pike homes. Thursday Recycling – EAST of Huntingdon Pike, includes College Park and all Buck Road homes. Carriage Lane homes – same schedule as Lower Moreland homes on Carriage Lane. Recycling materials include clear and colored glass containers; aluminum and metal food and beverage cans; all paper including newspaper, junk mail, office paper, telephone books, magazines; all cardboard (unless waxed) including corrugated and cereal/food boxes; all plastic containers marked recyclable with numbers one through seven (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) on the bottom. DO NOT include any Styrofoam, toys or plastic hangers. Recycled materials are collected once per week and should be placed at the curb a few feet away from your trash containers. You may co-mingle all recycled material in your recycling bin. Papers should be placed in a brown paper bag or tied to prevent blowing out of the bin. Additional Trash collection information Household Hazardous Waste Each year Montgomery County schedules drop off sites throughout the county for household hazardous waste items. The list is available at the Waste System Authority of Eastern Montgomery County (WSAEMC) website www.wsaemc.org. (SEE FLYER) You may also call 610-278-3618 for information. Montgomery County cooperates with surrounding counties for drop off sites. There may be a closer location to the Borough (i.e. Bucks County or Philadelphia) than the Montgomery County sites.
Bulk Items All non-metal bulk items such as mattresses, chairs, sofas, televisions and non-appliance metal items such as bicycles will be collected on Thursday, except during a holiday week. Only one large or two small bulk items will be collected per pick-up. Other bulk items include push lawn mowers (fluids must be drained), grills (must be broken down), toilets, sinks, swing sets (cut into 4 ft sections), metal bed frames and metal poles (cut into 3-4 ft. pieces), humidifier, trash compactors, microwaves (under 50lbs.), furniture, cabinets, shutters, lightweight treadmills, snow blowers (fluids drained), glass table tops (taped and wrapped), wooden fencing (cut in 4 ft. sections). NO riding mowers or propane tanks.
White Goods Residents will be required to pay a fee for the collection of all appliances known as “white goods” such as stoves, refrigerators, washers, dryers, riding lawn mowers, hot water heaters, window air conditioners, or any other large metal item. Upon receipt of the fifty dollar ($50.00) fee, a sticker will be issued to the resident. The sticker should be placed on the item for collection at the curb on the third Monday of each month. Residents may obtain the stickers in person or by mailing a request with payment to the Borough Office. The request should include a description of the item.
Holidays There will be no pick-up on: Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
As we are now joined with Lower Moreland on the trash contract, collection regulations must be strictly enforced. Violators may be subject to fines and penalties.
