JANUARY 2010
Boro Happenings
Highlights: - President Nehlig asked for a vote on Resolution 2010-01- the first resolution of 2010 commending Mayor Hyland Johns for his years of service. A Public Hearing was held on Ordinance #644. This ordinance is required for the Masons Mill Business Park to be serviced by the Upper Moreland Hatboro Joint Sewer Authority. Ordinance 644 adopts by reference Resolutions 537 and 538 of the Upper Moreland-Hatboro Joint Sewer Authority, pertaining to the Streamlining provisions of the Industrial Pretreatment Program contained in the federal Clean Water Act. Ordinance #644 was approved unanimously. Fetters Mill Bridge update was given- Bryn Athyn and Lower Moreland are communicating together to the County. A letter to the County (in draft form) was read which acknowledges the need to increase the weight limit to 15 tons for emergency and local deliveries, but asks that the bridge remain a one-lane truss and that the general appearance of the bridge will remain the same. The letter will be sent after it is also approved by the Lower Moreland Township Commissioners. A preliminary Case Study needs to be forwarded to PennDOT and the Pennsylvania Historic and Museum Commission for review. - Brent McCurdy updated the Council on citizen requests- one centered around repairing the wall in Borough Park, the other about concerns about the effects of Bryn Athyn College growth on the Borough. Mayor McCurdy advised the Council that he has put an ad in the Post asking for a volunteer committee to be formed to investigate the possibilities of Bryn Athyn having a community sponsored fireworks display July Fourth. - The Police Chief report was read by David Roscoe which testified to the fact that our force responded to over 400 individual calls, violations, or other complaints in the Borough in January. One specific incident may be of interest in knowing that our police car impacted a deer which might make us all feel better if/when that happens to one of us, that it can happen to anybody. No report on the condition of the deer was available. - The Fire Chiefs report included reports to 141 Ambulance calls, 18 in Bryn Athyn and 27 fire calls in total, 7 of which were in the Borough. - Scott Cooper reported that he is working on the annual update of the Borough Emergency Management Plan. - Safety Chairman David Roscoe reported that the Pedestrian Crossing signs have been moved from the center of several local roadways to the sides due to damage to the roadway from larger vehicles trying to avoid the signs. - Public Works Committee Chairman Mark Pennink reported on sink holes, snow removal, and plans to rebuild the Borough Park wall by the summer. - New Business included visits by the Southampton Railroad Station Society who reported on their interest in the Bryn Athyn Train Wreck of 1921. The society would like to place a historic marker near the Bryn Athyn Station and have commissioned a model of the wreck scene. Mr. Leo Synnestvedt requested Councils support of the Lower Moreland Township Civic Associations’ appeal to the Lower Moreland Zoning Hearing Board regarding Discovery House (a methadone clinic) which has recently located in Lower Moreland Township. The Public Safety Committee will consider this at their next meeting. - The next meeting will be March 8, 2010 at Borough Hall
